Exhibition of Bangladesh Press Photo Contest begins

The exhibition of Bangladesh Press Photo Contest 2022, organized by Drik Picture Library, was inaugurated on Friday.

Eminent photojournalist Shahidul Alam, managing director of Drik, delivered the welcome speech while photographer Abir Abdullah and chief photojournalist of Dhaka Tribune Syed Zakir Hossain spoke on behalf of the jury.

Writer, critic and teacher Syed Manzoorul Islam and Gitiara Nasreen, of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of Dhaka University, also spoke on the occasion.

Curator Tanzeem Wahab and World Press Photo Executive Director Joumana El Zein Khoury joined the occasion virtually.

A total of 291 contestants participated in the contest with 1,403 photos submitted in different categories. Of them, 34 pictures will be displayed at the exhibition.

The exhibition, being held at Drik Gallery, will be open to the public every day from 3pm to 8pm until March 2.

The results were announced on February 11 where four photojournalists have won the contest.

A photo by Amran Hossain of The Daily Star won the "Photo of the Year" award with the prize money of Tk100,000.

Sourav Lasker of the New Age won in the Arts, Culture and Sports category; Jibon Ahmed of the Daily Manab Zamin won in the Public Interest Journalism category; and Md Zakirul Mazed of Weekly Citizen won in the Politics category. Each of these three winners also received a Tk50,000 award.

They each were also given a crest, certificate, and a yearbook copy.
