2-day weekly holidays in edu institutions from 2023

Education minister Dipu Moni on Saturday said that the weekly holidays in all the educational institutions across Bangladesh will be two days from 2023.

The minister said this while speaking in a ceremony organised by the National Curriculum and Textbook Board at its office in Dhaka to launch new books for the new curriculum.

She said that the decision was taken with the consent of prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

‘We are hoping that the weekly holidays will be for two days from 2023 in all the educational institutions,’ she said.

The minister said that weekly holidays are for two days in the universities now while in some of the secondary and higher secondary level educational institutions allow two days’ weekly holidays.

She said that some educational institutions, however, allow one-day weekly holiday.

Dipu Moni said that they proposed to the prime minister to set a two-day weekly holidays in secondary to tertiary level educational institutions when they went to her with the new curriculum framework.

‘After all, two-day break is necessary for coming back with new energy in the classrooms,’ Dipu Moni said.

She also mentioned that though the authorities of the primary and mass education ministry then kept a one-day weekly holiday, the prime minister said that primary level students also needed two days’ weekly holidays.

‘So, we have decided that weekly holidays will be for two days in all levels of educational institutions,’ she added.
