Probing Sharif's dismissal: 10 SC lawyers now file petition seeking HC order

A writ petition was filed with the High Court today seeking its directive on the authorities to conduct an independent inquiry into the reported allegations and counter allegations over the termination of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) official Sharif Uddin.

Ten Supreme Court lawyers, led by Mohammad Shishir Manir, submitted the petition as a public interest litigation -- also requesting the HC to pass necessary order to protect the independent and neutral image of the commission.

Yesterday (February 22), an HC bench declined to hold hearing and pass any order on the letter submitted by the 10 lawyers for examining the termination of Sharif Uddin from his service.

The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman asked the lawyers to file a writ petition seeking necessary directives if they are aggrieved with ACC's action over Sharif Uddin's dismissal.

The lawyers on February 20 sent the letter to the judges of the HC bench and Supreme Court registrar general, requesting them to examine the termination of Sharif Uddin.

In the letter, they prayed to the HC to issue a show cause notice asking the ACC to explain why it has dismissed Sharif.

The lawyers also urged the HC to direct the government to provide security to Sharif Uddin as he has apprehended about his security.
