Harassed for wearing teep: Sylhet police inspector withdrawn for criticizing protest

A police inspector in Sylhet has been withdrawn over a Facebook post mocking the ongoing protests against the harassment of a college teacher for wearing a teep.

Liaquat Ali was the court inspector of Sylhet District Police. He was withdrawn last night and attached to Sylhet Police Lines.

Additional Superintendent of Sylhet District Police, Md Lutfar Rahman, confirmed the development to our Sylhet correspondent.

Lutfar Rahman said, "District police found his Facebook post embarrassing. Although he has deleted the post, he has been withdrawn."

"A three-member investigation committee headed by me has been formed. The committee would submit its investigation report within the next three working days," he added.

On Saturday, many took to social media to protest the harassment of a college teacher. Several men on Facebook protested the harassment by wearing a teep.

Liaquat Ali posted on the protest on his personal Facebook account yesterday afternoon. In his post, he made fun of the men protesting by wearing teep. When the issue sparked outrage on social media, he deleted the post.

Tejgaon College teacher Lata Samaddar complained that a policeman harassed and hurled abusive words at her after seeing a teep on her forehead while she was going to the campus on April 2, 2022.
