The first Eid Jamaat of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr will be held at the National Eidgah in Dhaka at 8:30am.

Around 35,000 Muslim devotees will be able to take part in the prayers together on this ground, said Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh while visiting the Supreme Court premises on Saturday.

This year, the National Eidgah is being prepared for Eid prayers as it has not been used for the past two years due to Covid-19 restrictions, he added.

The mayor also assured that law enforcement agencies will be working to ensure foolproof security at the site. “We are aiming to create a beautiful and safe environment for the Muslim Ummah.”

Pandals, awnings, and canvases have already been built, and loudspeakers have been installed around the venue. CCTV cameras are also being installed all around the National Eidgah site.

Eid is set to be celebrated on Monday or Tuesday, subject to the sighting of the moon.

The National Moon Sighting Committee will meet on Sunday to fix the date for observing Eid, the biggest religious festival of Muslims.

The Islamic Foundation in a press release on Saturday said the meeting will be held at the foundation's Baitul Mukarram office after Maghrib prayers for reviewing information on the sighting of the Shawwal moon.
