Although the flood situation in Sylhet and Sunamganj remains unchanged, less rainfall from last night till this morning has caused the flood water level to drop in some areas.
According to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre, flood situation in northeastern part of the country will improve to some extent tomorrow or the next day.
Asif Ahmed, executive engineer of Water Development Board, Sylhet, said, "At 9am today, Surma river water in Sylhet is flowing 143 cm above the danger level at Kanaighat point, which is 35 cm more than yesterday. However, the river water level in Sylhet city point is 64 cm above the danger level, which is 25 cm lower than yesterday."
At Jakiganj in Sylhet, Kushiyara river is flowing 160 cm above the danger level, up 63 cm from yesterday. At Shewla point of Biyanibazar in Sylhet, the river water is flowing 63 cm above the danger level, which is 29 cm higher than yesterday.
According to data from Water Development Board, Shari-Goyain river in Sylhet and Kushiyara river at Fenchuganj point are both flowing below the danger level.
Zahurul Islam, executive engineer of Sunamganj Water Development Board, said, "Rainfall has decreased in Sunamganj and the rivers' water level has decreased slightly. Floodwater has also receded in a number of locations."
Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre's executive engineer, Arifuzzaman Bhuiyan, said, "The rivers' water level is rising in some places, falling in others, and remaining stable in others. The flood situation is generally stable. However, situation may improve slightly tomorrow or the day after tomorrow."
