Two electrocuted in Ctg during waterlogging

Two people were electrocuted in Chattogram city’s Katalgonj area on Monday morning during waterlogging due to heavy rain and tidal water.

The deceased were identified as driver Mohammad Hossain, 38, son of Saleh Ahmed, hailed from Jorargonj area in Chattogram, and caretaker Abu Taher, 65, son of Abdur Rouf, hailed from Ramghar area in Khagrachhari, Nazim Uddin Mazumder, officer-in-charge of Panchlaish police station, told New Age.

Driver Mohammad Hossain and caretaker Abu Taher of Khan House of Katalgonj area were electrocuted at about 7:30am from an IPS installed at the ground floor of the building, the OC said.

They were rescued and taken to nearby Parkview hospital where the duty doctor declared them dead, he said.

Later, fire service members disconnected the electric line, the OC added.

However, Patenga met office recorded 242.2 mm rainfall in 24 hours till 6:00am on Monday, according to Meghnad Tanchangya, assistant meteorologist of Patenga Met Office.

Chandgoan police station of Chattogram Metropolitan Police went under water on Sunday night during waterlogging due to heavy rain and tidal water.

However, low-lying areas in Chattogram city, including Agrabad CDA residential area, Shantibag, Beparipara, Halishahar, Bakalia, Rahatarpool, Bahaddarhat, Badurtola, Muradpur, Chawkbazar, Asadganj, Gate No 2 area, DC Road, and Ananya residential area, remained under water due to continuous rain and tidal surge since Friday morning, said city residents.
