Humiliation of Narail teacher: HC orders judicial probe

The High Court today (July 18, 2022) ordered for conducting a judicial enquiry into the incident of humiliating a college teacher in Narail on June 17.

The chief judicial magistrate of Narail has been directed to conduct the probe and to submit the report to the HC in six weeks.

On June 17, students and locals forced Swapan Kumar Biswas, acting principal of Mirzapur United Degree College, to wear a garland of shoes in Narail Sadar upazila.

The incident came to light after a video of the teacher's humiliation went viral on social media.

Today, the HC also directed the authorities concerned of the government to provide security and medical facilities to Swapan Kumar and his family members.

The court also issued a rule asking the district administration and police to explain why their failure to prevent the occurrence should not be declared illegal.

The bench of Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty and Justice SM Maniruzzaman delivered the order and rule following a writ petition filed by human rights organisation Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK) seeking necessary orders on this issue.
