Akbar Ali Khan given guard of honour after janaza at Azad Mosque

The namaz-e-janaza of Akbar Ali Khan, former adviser to the caretaker government, was held at Azad Mosque in Dhaka's Gulshan after Juma prayers today (September 9, 2022).

He was given guard of honour after the janaza from Dhaka district administration. He was later taken to Mirpur martyred intellectuals' graveyard for burial.

Preparation is underway for his burial at the graveyard.

Akbar Ali, an economist, historian and writer, breathed his last yesterday, leaving behind the gift of his wisdom on issues ranging from economics to literature. He was 78.

He fell ill and was taken to the Evercare Hospital at 10:40pm. He had passed away before he arrived at the hospital, said Dr Arif Mahmud, deputy director of Evercare Hospital.

Akbar held various positions in bureaucracy. He was former cabinet secretary, former finance secretary, and also headed the National Board of Revenue.
