No reform of quotas, says govt

Dhaka, Apr 9 (Just News): The government has decided that there would be no reform of quotas in public service and its considers that the existing quota system is appropriate.

The issue of students’ agitation seeking reform of quotas in public service came in the weekly cabinet meeting with prime minister Sheikh Hasina at the Prime Minister’s Office.

After the cabinet meeting, public administration senior secretary Md Mozammel Haque Khan said the government is not thinking of any reform of quotas and it considers that the existing system protects the interests of the meritorious students.

Earlier on march 21, prime minister Sheikh Hasina at a rally in Chittagong had said there would be no change in the freedom fighters quota. She also said if any position reserved for quotas remain vacant, it would be filled up with people from merit list.
