Five killed in Rangpur road accident

At least five people were killed and seven injured in an accident among a truck, an ambulance and a battery-run auto-rickshaw on Rangpur-Dinajpur road near Nengtichera Bridge under Taraganj upazilla in Rangpur on Monday evening.

Four of the deceased are identified as Sohiruddin, 40, Khademul Islam, 38, Azanur Rhaman, 45, and Habibullah, 45, all residents of the upazilla.

The rest one could not be identified immediately.

According to the police and locals, the Syedpur bound auto-rickshaw from Taragonj collided head-on with a Rangpur-bound truck and ambulance from the opposite direction when it reached near Nengtichera bridge on the road at about 6:30pm, leaving four people dead on the spot and eight injured.

The injured ones were rushed to Taraganj upazilla health complex. Of the injured, one died on the way to the hospital.

The officer-in-charge of Taragonj police station, Mostafizur Rhaman, confirmed the number of death as four.

Taragonj Highway Police post-sub-inspector, Rafiq Hossain, said that the injured ones were admitted to Taragonj Upazilla Health Complex. Of the injured, one succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital. 

On information, police and a fire-fighters team reached the spot, he added.
