Gono Forum to join simultaneous movement

The Gono Forum faction, led by Mostafa Mohsin Montu, from now on will take part in the simultaneous anti-government movement with the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party.

The decision was taken on Monday at a meeting between the BNP liaison committee and the Gono Forum faction liaison committee at the faction’s central office at Arambagh in the capital city with the faction’s president Mostafa Mohsin Montu in the chair.

After the meeting, Montu told reporters that they wold hold simultaneous programmes with the BNP from now on.

‘We shall hold mass sit-in programmes on January 11, as a similar programme of the BNP that day, while the sit-in venue in Dhaka will be announced later,’ Montu said.

BNP standing committee member Iqbal Hasan Mahmud, also a member of the liaison committee, too, told the reporters after the meeting that the Gono Forum faction leaders had agreed to stage simultaneous anti-government programmes with the BNP from now on.

BNP vice-chairman Barkatullah Bulu, joint secretary general Moazzem Hossain Alal, Gono Forum general secretary Subrata Chowdhury, praesidium members Abu Sayeed, Jaglul Haider Afrik, Mohiuddin Abdul Kader and Abdul Hasib Chowdhury attended the meeting.

Since December 30, the 12-party alliance and the Ganatantra Mancha — a seven-party alliance — have started holding parallel programmes with the BNP.   

Besides, two left-leaning political parties, Jatiya Mukti Council and Gono Front, also agreed to observe similar programmes with the BNP.
