JCD leader shot in leg by BCL man in Narsingdi

A Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader was shot in his right leg allegedly by a Bangladesh Chhatra League man in Narsingdi.

The incident took place around 3:00pm in the Dorihawlapara area of Polash upazila.

Mostafizur Rahman, 32, a resident of Malita village of Charsindur union and convener of Polash upazila unit of JCD, suffered bullet wounds when he was on his way to take part in a BNP protest programme.

Locals rushed him to Narsingdi 100-bed Zilla Hospital, and he was later referred to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Two other JCD men -- Amanullah and Ariful Islam Arif -- were also beaten up by pro-ruling party men, sources said.

Rubel Mia, the person who allegedly shot Mostafizur, is a former vice president of BCL's Ghorashal municipal unit.

A resident of the Kutirpara area, Rubel is known as the "gunman" of Mujahid Hossain, mayor of Ghorashal municipality, BNP and JCD sources claimed.

However, when contacted, the mayor denied any ties to Rubel and said he has no gunman.

Director of Narsingdi 100-Bed Zilla Hospital ANM Mizanur Rahman said the injured, Mostafizur Rahman, was brought to the hospital around 4:00pm with bullet injuries and was referred to DMCH for better treatment. "He was shot in the right leg."

Mohammad Elias Hossain, officer-in-charge of Polash Police Station, said, "A JCD leader has been shot in the leg. If we get a written complaint from the victim, we will take action against those involved with the incident."
