A woman and her six-month old grandchild were killed after a motorcycle hit them near the Metro Rail Station at Dhaka's Diabari area early today.
The deceased were identified as Mazeda alias Khuki, 45, and her grandchild Rafia Akter.
The accident took place around 12:45am when they were returning to their house in Sholohati area from a relative's house.
The woman, carrying her grandchild, was crossing the road near Metro Rail Station No-2 area. The baby fell on the ground after the motorcycle hit them, Moudut Hawlader, officer-in-charge of Turag Police Station told.
Pedestrians rushed them to Uttara Adhunik Hospital where Mazeda passed away around 1:45am. The child was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where she breathed her last around 2:30am, he added.
Police seized the bike and detained its rider Arafat Hossain, who suffered minor injuries.
