GP network restored after nearly 3 hours of disruption

Normal service on the Grameenphone network was restored across the country after more than two hours of disruption, the telecom giant's officials said.

Khairul Basher, head of communications at Grameenphone, said the network was restored at 1:50pm after about two hours of disruption, which happened due to damage to fibre-optic cables during construction work on roads in Gazipur, Tangail and Sirajganj.

While GP officials said the network was disrupted for two hours, users have been complaining of connectivity issues since before 11:00am today.

Posts and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar said it was an accident.

There should be coordination between road construction officials and operators to prevent such network disruption in future, he added.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) issued a letter to the top telecom operator seeking an explanation for the network failure.
