Stubborn stance of 2 major parties dangerous for country: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal today said that the stubborn stance of the two major political parties on the next general election is dangerous for the country.

He was talking to reporters after a meeting with a group of local and foreign election observers at the EC Bhabhan.

The CEC said that if any major party does not participate in the national elections, the results will be questionable.

He also urged the ruling party to be more active to bring everyone to the election.

However, the CEC hoped that a political compromise on the election can be reached within the next few months.

Among the observers were former prime minister of Nepal Jhala Nath Khanal; Volker Friedrich, social worker, political analyst, and managing director at GBP International in Germany; Marietta Arguido Reformado, social worker and political analyst based in Kuala Lumpur; advocate Dr Gautam Ghosh, election analyst and senior lawyer of Supreme Court of Delhi; Gipsy Ghosh, founder director of Multicultural Canada Pageant; Jackson Dukpa, president of Global Village Connection of Bhutan; Professor Mohammad Abed Ali, chairman of Election Monitoring Forum; Professor Dr Habibur Rahman, vice chancellor of DUET and director of Election Monitoring Forum, Professor Dr Abdul Jabbar, pro-vice chancellor of Buet and director of Election Monitoring Forum.
