A school student was among two people who died after a bus ran them over in Jhalakathi's Nalchity upazila this morning.
The deceased were identified as Turja Bhattacharjee, a class ten student of ZA Bhutto High School, and Akash, a rickshaw-van puller.
The deceased were talking to each other in front of the school at Shimultola area when a Patuakhali-bound Al Amin Paribahan bus from Barishal ran them over around 9:00am. Both died on the spot, said Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Nalchity Police Station.
Police seized the bus, but the driver managed to flee the scene, he added.
After the news of the deaths spread, the students of the school blocked Patuakhali-Barishal road for two hours demanding arrest of the driver, resulting in a long tailback in the area.
