5 hurt as BCL 'attacks' JCD members at DU

At least five members of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) unit of Dhaka University were injured as Chhatra League activists allegedly carried out an attack on them at High court intersection near the campus.

The incident happened around 12:45pm while JCD leaders were leaving the campus after greeting admission seekers with flowers and pens after the arts, law and social sciences unit exam.

The injured JCD leaders are DU unit senior joint secretary Mominul Islam Jisan, joint secretary Razu Ahmed, organising secretary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall Anik Ahmed, joint secretary of Shahid Sergeant Zahurul Haque hall unit Abdullah Talukder Sabbir and Sir AF Rahman Hall JCD leader Arifur Rahman.

They were taken to Islami Bank Hospital in the capital for primary treatment.

"We went to the campus today as per our earlier announced programme. When we were leaving the campus, a group of BCL members swooped on us with sticks," said Khorshed Alam Sohel, president of DU unit of JCD.

Contacted, BCL president Mazharul Kabir Shoyon and general secretary Tanbir Hasan Shaikat of DU unit refuted the allegation.

"Our BCL activists were busy greeting admission seekers and looking after the guardians. We were not involved with the incident. But we have been informed that the incident happened between two groups of Chhatra Dal following internal disputes," Shaikat told.

Asked, DU Proctor Prof Maksudur Rahman said they have been informed that an unexpected incident happened outside the campus. "We are looking into it… we always ensure discipline on the campus."

Mentionable, as the incident happened just after the exam, it created panic among admission-seekers and guardians.
