Low-pressure area may form over Bay of Bengal

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Saturday predicted that a low-pressure area might develop over Southeast Bay and adjoining areas within the next 24 hours.

The extended portion of the low pressure is currently located in West Bengal and its surrounding areas, said the met office in its 9am weather bulletin.

Due to the impact of the low-pressure system, temporary heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds is expected in some parts of Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions, said meteorologist Md Monowar Hossain.

"Hailstorms may also occur sporadically in some places. Apart from that, the weather in other parts of the country may remain predominantly dry with partly cloudy skies. Day and night temperatures may increase slightly across the country over the next 24 hours," he said.

"The low-pressure area that will form within three days may intensify further," added Monowar.
