'Missing’ Tk 248.55 crore: ACC files case against 3 Wasa employees

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against three employees of Dhaka Wasa for misappropriating about Tk 248.55 crore from a cooperative society.

The accused are Wasa's former revenue inspectors Mia Md Mizanur Rahman and Habib Ullah Bhuiyan and computer operator Naimul Hasan. ACC's assistant director Ashikur Rahman filed the case.

According to the case statement, Dhaka Wasa Employee Multipurpose Cooperative Society had Tk 354 crore in a current account at Janata Bank of which about Tk 95.01 crore was spent for different purposes.

Another Tk 10.59 crore balance was found in the account.

However, there was no trace of the rest of the money. During the interrogation, the accused could not answer how the rest of the money was spent.

All three accused are key members of the Programme for Performance Improvement (PPI). Dhaka Wasa Employee Multipurpose Cooperative Society is an initiative of PPI.
