Vehicles moving slowly after overnight jam

Following a huge gridlock throughout last night on a 13-kilometre stretch on the Dhaka-Tangail highway, the traffic situation has eased in the morning.

Vehicles are still moving slowly following the aftermath of the jam as the rush of home goers picked up pace, three days before the Eid-ul-Adha.

The traffic jam started around 10:00pm yesterday and the Bangabandhu Bridge authorities had to stop collecting toll several times due to the gridlock, our Tangail correspondent reported quoting the control room operators of the bridge.

Delwar Hossain, inspector (traffic) of Tangail District Police, said the toll collection on the bridge was stopped due to heavy traffic pressure.

Meanwhile, around 12:30am today, a cow jumped off a cattle truck at Pathailkandi area on the highway, creating a chaos on the road. Amid the situation, some drivers felt asleep, worsening the traffic jam, he said.
