Case filed against Labaid MD over death of student

A case was filed on Monday against seven people including managing director of Labaid Specialised Hospital over the death of a HSC student due to alleged wrong treatment.

The seven accused are Labaid Specialised Hospital managing director Dr AM Shamim, branch manager (Dhanmandi) Md Shahjahan, Dr Md Saifullah, Dr Maksud, Dr Sabbir Ahmed, Dr Mosharraf and Dr Kanak.

Victim Tahsin Hossain’s father filed the case with the court of Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Farah Diba Chanda. The court, after recording the statement of the plaintiff, asked the Dhanmandi police station to accept the matter as first information report.

According to the case documents, the plaintiff took his son Tahsin, who was suffering from stomach ache recently, to Dr Saiffullah at Labaid Specialised Hospital on March 27. Acting on his suggestion, he admitted Tahsin to the hospital. He was operated on March 28 at the hospital.

But Tahsin’s condition deteriorated rapidly after the surgery. Dr Saifullah operated on Tahsin second time on April 6, making his condition more frail. He was given 144 bags of blood in this time. On June 23, Tahsin died at the hospital.

‘I had asked Dr Saifullah many times that what is the problem of my son. But he never could give me an appropriate answer. I am hundred percent sure that they killed my son through wrong treatment,’ Tahsin’s father Monir Hossain said.
