Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway witnesses 25 km tailback

Huge pressures of vehicles, several accidents, mechanical glitches of vehicles, frequent disruption of toll collection and rain have created a tailback of 25 kilometres on the Dhaka-Tangail- Bangabandhu Bridge highway from early morning on Wednesday.

The tailback was seen from the eastern side of the Bangabandhu Bridge to Karatia under Sadar upazila in Tangail of the highway.

A pick-up van became standstill on the bridge at about 4:00am due to mechanical glitches and it created a tailback first. As a result, toll collection became stopped fully from 4:00am to 4:53am, officials at the bridge said.

Before that, toll collection was stopped several times and a huge tailback was created on the highway.

The tailback caused enormous suffering for the home-goers, especially those who were returning home by trucks and mini trucks and on the roofs of the buses due to rain.

Elenga highway police station officer-in-charge Zahid Hassan said that accidents, mechanical glitches, slow or no collection of tolls for using the bridge and rain were responsible for the huge tailback.
