Higher Secondary Certificate exams under eight boards begin

The Higher Secondary Certificate examinations began on Thursday simultaneously under eight general education boards in Bangladesh.

On Thursday the examinations kicked off with the Bangla first paper under the Dhaka, Rajshahi, Cumilla, Barishal, Dinajpur, Sylhet, Jessore and Mymensingh education boards.

The deferred HSC examinations of Chattogram board, madrassah board and technical education board will start on August 27.

The examinations of the three boards were shifted from August 17 to August 27 due to flooding in five districts of Chattogram division.

According to the routine, the theoretical part of the examinations under eight boards will be held between August 17 and September 25 and the practical part of the examinations will be held between September 26 and October 4.

Earlier the education minister Dipu Moni at a press briefing said that this year’s HSC and equivalent examinations would be held on shortened syllabuses but for full duration and full marks.

Only the Information and Communication Technology exam would be held for 75 marks instead of 100.

She also said all coaching centres across the country would remain closed from August 14 to September 25 to ensure a proper environment for the exams.

Earlier, a section of students demanded deferral of the HSC exams citing reasons that they did not have sufficient time to prepare for the exams and that many were infected with dengue.

A total of 13,59,342 students have registered for the HSC and equivalent exams. Of them, 6,88,887 are boys and 6,70,455 are girls.
