US-Bangladesh security dialogue on Sept 5

The United States and Bangladesh are scheduled to hold the ninth annual security dialogue in Dhaka tomorrow, aiming to strengthen security cooperation between the two countries.

The US delegation will be led by deputy assistant secretary of the state for regional security in the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs Mira Resnick, according to a press release of the US embassy in Dhaka.

Foreign secretary Masud Bin Momen would lead the Bangladesh side in the bilateral annual event, officials said.

‘Representatives from both sides will discuss Indo-Pacific regional issues, security and human rights, military cooperation, peacekeeping, security assistance, and counterterrorism, among other topics,’ said the release.

Mira Resnick is expected to arrive in Dhaka today to join the dialogue, according to officials concerned.

In this capacity, she oversees the Bureau’s office of Regional Security and Arms Transfers. She is also responsible for the Bureau’s office of Security Assistance.

Asked about the security dialogue, foreign ministry spokesperson Seheli Sabrin said that the ninth US-Bangladesh security dialogue was set to be held in Dhaka in continuation of the eighth such dialogue held in Washington in 2022.

The security dialogue is followed by the two-day defence dialogue held between US and Bangladesh on August 23-24 in Dhaka.
