A senior official of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Sunday said that they found that Jagannath University law department student Amman Siddique and the university’s assistant proctor Deen Islam were partially responsible for suicide of Fairuz Abontika, another student of the university’s law department.
In a press conference, the DMP additional commissioner (crime and operations) Khandokar Mahid Uddin, said that so far they did not find all the allegations against them true.
He said that they had handed over the information to Cumilla police for further investigation.
Fairuz Abontika, a 13th batch student of law department of JnU, committed suicide at her village home in Cumilla at about 10:00pm on Friday.
Before committing suicide, she posted a status on her Facebook wall where she brought allegations of sexual harassment against one of her classmates, Amman Siddique.
Abontika, in her post, also accused the university’s assistant proctor Deen Islam of misbehaving with her supporting Amman.
In the facebook post, Abontika mentioned that her classmate Amman Siddique and assistant proctor Deen Islam would be responsible for her suicide.
A case was filed with Cumilla Kotwali Model Police Station on Saturday night following a complaint lodged by Abantika's mother Tahmina Shabnam, said Firoz Hossain, officer-in-charge of the police station.
According to the case statement, Amman Siddique harassed Abantika sexually on online and offline platforms while JnU assistant proctor Deen Islam abused her verbally.
Police arrested Jagannath University assistant proctor Deen Islam and student Amman Siddique over the incident.
