Six killed in polls clash

Dhaka, Dec 30 (Just News): At least six men were killed in reported clashes in Chattogram, Rangamati, Rajshahi, Cumilla and Cox’s Bazar on Sunday morning as the voting got underway in the 11th JS Polls.

In Chattogram, a man died in a clash between two groups in Banshkhali upazilla, our correspondent reported.

Duty officer sub inspector Akhtar Hossain of Banshkhali Police Station confirmed the incident of death but could not provide identity of the victim or any other details.

A local Jubo League leader was killed and 10 were injured in a clash with BNP-Jamaat men in Kawkhali upazila of Rangamati, reports our Rangamati correspondent.

The deceased was identified as Bashir uddin, 35, was general secretary of Ghagra union Juba League, said Rangamati Deputy Commissioner AKM Mamunur Rashid.

The clash took place Ghagra’s Rangipara villege at 6.00 am where several shots were fired.

Later, Bashir and another were taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where on duty doctor declared Basir as dead, said Mamunur Rashid.

Md Alauddin, sub inspector of Chattogram Medical College and Hospital police outpost told New Age, Bashir was brought dead at the hospital around 10:30am.

In Rajshahi a Jubo League activist was killed in Mohonpur upazila during a clash, confirmed Rajshahi police super.

He identified the deceased as Miraj but provided no further details.

In Chandina, Cumilla-7, a voter named Md Majid, 35, died during a clash between local Awami League and Bangladesh Nationalist Party activists.

Presiding officer of the centre claimed while snatching away a ballot box, police shot Majid.

In Langolkoat, A BNP activist Bacchu Mia, 45, died in a clash, said Langolkoat Police Station sub-inspector Ali Ashraf.

In Pekua of Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh Chattra League activist Abdullah Faruk, 23, was killed in a clash between rival groups.

Nine others were also injured in the incident, Saber Ahmed, a physician of Pekua Upazila Health Complex confirmed the incident.
