‘Drug trader’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug peddler was killed in a 'gunfight' with police at Satghoria Para in Teknaf upazila early today.

The deceased was identified as Abdur Rahman, 23, son of Shah Alam, a resident of Moheshkhaliapata in Howaikang union.

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Model Police Station, said being tipped off that a group of drug peddlers would gather in the area a team of police conducted a drive around 4:00am.

Sensing the presence of police, the drug traders opened fire, forcing them to retaliate, triggering the gun fight.

After the gunfight, police rescued Rahman who sustained bullet injuries and took him to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.

Police also recovered 3,000 Yaba tablets, one LG, three rounds cartridge and six round bullet shells from the spot.
