BRTC headquarters besieged

Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation drivers and other depot staff besieged the corporation headquarters in the capital on Monday demanding arrears.

Some 30 to 40 protesters at around 9:00am locked the building’s main entrance and punctured tiers of a vehicle in front the headquarters.

The protesters said that for 3 to 16 months they did not get salaries at almost all BRTC depots across the country. They blamed the current BRTC chairman for the irregularities.

BRTC chairman Farid Ahmed Bhuiyan said that they were trying to resolve the problem by increasing revenue through new services.

The drivers and staff were continuing agitations.
