In Cox's Bazar, two persons were killed in an alleged gunfight with RAB.

The deceased were Abdur Rahman, 42, son of Bashir Ahmed from Sabrang union's Lejirpara village and Omar Faruq, 31, son of Kabir Ahmed from Ramu upazila's Khunipalong union.

Confirming the reported gunfight, police superintendent Mohiuddin Faruqi said tipped off that a consignment of drugs would pass through Teknaf, a team of RAB-2 came to Cox's Bazar from Dhaka.

The RAB team set up a temporary checkpost at the Marine Drive area of Baharchhara union, he added saying that they signalled a suspicious vehicle around 2:30am early Monday.

Sensing the law enforcers' presence, the smugglers opened fire at the RAB men, triggering the gun battle, the police superintendent added.

Later, the RAB members found two bullet-hit Abdur Rahman and Omar Faruq and took them to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital where the physicians declared them dead, he also said.
