DSCC councillor Monju placed on 10-day remand

A Dhaka court has placed Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC)'s Ward 39 Councillor Moinul Haque Monju on a total of 10-day remand, in two separate cases.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dhiman Mandal on Friday placed him on five-day remand each in cases filed under the Arms Act, and Narcotics Control Act. Earlier in the day, police produced Monju before the court and pleaded for a total of 14-day remand.

The court also remanded Monju's driver Sazzad for five days, under the Narcotics Control Act.

Monju, also an Awami League leader, was arrested from his Tikatuli office in Dhaka during a drive on Thursday. Arms, liquor, yaba pills, marijuana, and some banned sexual stimulants were seized from his office, while alcohol and foreign passports were recovered from his residence.

Monju, a member in the ruling party’s Wari unit committee, was accused in extortion, criminal and land grabbing cases.
