Digital Security Act case against DUCSU VP Nur

Another case has been filed against vice president of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) Nurul Haque Nur under the Digital Security Act on charges of hurting religious sensitivity and spreading propaganda.

Arnab Hode, publicity secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League’s (BCL) Jagannath Hall unit, filed the case against Nur and Muhammad Rashed Khan, joint convener of Bangladesh General Students' Rights Protection Council, with the Dhanmondi police on Thursday (Dec 26).

"Charges of disseminating defaming and false information through Facebook with the intent to deteriorate law and order situation have been brought," Dhanmondi OC Humayun Kabir said on Saturday (Dec 28).

An investigation has been opened, he said.

Plaintiff Arnob said that Nur and Rashed went on Facebook live to "spread rumours" during the DUCSU office attacks. "They have also spread false and defaming information on the DU BCL president."

It comes after another BCL activist started a case against Nur and his associates in the Students' Rights Protection Council on charges of attempted murder and theft.

DM Sabbir Hossain, a resident of Dhaka University’s Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall, filed the case with Dhaka’s Shahbagh Police Station on Thursday.

It named Nur and 28 others along with about 20 other unidentified suspects. They are accused of illegally entering the DUCSU building with outsiders and carrying out attacks on activists of the Chhatra League and Muktijuddho Mancha.
