Wear mask or face legal action: DGHS

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has said people must wear masks in public, along with abiding by other health guidelines, amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The health authorities came up with the fresh order through a circular on Saturday when the country is grappling with the pandemic.

The circular, signed by DGHS Additional Director General Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, said the violators will face legal action under the Communicable Diseases (Prevention, Control and Eradication) Act 2018.

Section 24 and Section 25 of the act will be applied to prosecute the violators, it said.

The circular also said people must follow other guidelines provided by the DGHS. In case of their failure, they will be punished by the two sections of the act as well.

The restrictions on movement from 8pm to 6am will remain in place except for emergencies, it added.

The emergencies include access to shops, provision of healthcare, commuting to and from work, purchasing medicines, and burying the dead.
