Police foil LDA march towards energy ministry

The police on Monday foiled the march of Left Democratic Alliance towards energy ministry at Zero point of Gulistan area in Bangladesh capital Dhaka.

LDA, a combine of nine left parties, started their march at about 12:30pm towards energy ministry in Bangladesh secretariat demanding withdrawal of the hiked price of fuel oil and LPG.

The leaders and activists of LDA started their march after a short rally at Purana Paltan crossing and police stopped the marchers near Zero point at Gulistan in Dhaka.

The marchers, being intercepted by the police, sat on the street and held a rally there.

LDA coordinator Bazlur Rashid Firoz warned that they would announce tougher movement programmes if the government failed to withdraw the hiked prices of fuel oil and scrap the hiked fare of buses and launches.

Communist Party of Bangladesh assistant general secretary Sazzad Zahir Chandan, Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Huq, United Communist League general secretary Mosharraf Hossain Nannu and Democratic Revolutionary Party general secretary Mushrefa Mishu, among others, spoke.
