Main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday said that the supreme sacrifice of Narayanganj Juba Dal activist Shaon Pradhan would expedite movement for democracy in the country.
Fakhrul made the remarks after visiting the family members of slain Shaon in Narayanganj.
Shaon was shot dead and scores injured during a clash between police and BNP activists in Narayanganj on Thursday. The clash occurred when the police tried to stop a BNP programme in the city.
‘Shaon’s supreme sacrifice will strengthen the democracy of the country. It will expedite movement for democracy in the country,’ Fakhrul said.
‘The government has snatched democracy. This fascist government opened fire on peaceful programme and killed our brother Shaon yesterday,’ he said.
‘This fascist Awami League government has snatched people’s democratic rights and right to vote,’ he said and added that the government had also snatched the people’s rights to speak.
He alleged that the police had opened fire on peaceful programme by aiming gun at point-blank range.
