Police foil BNP’s road march in Patuakhali

Police charged batons on the road march of BNP and foiled their protest programme in Patuakhali town this morning, the party members claimed.

At least six activists were injured in the police action, said Patuakhali district BNP member secretary Snehanshu Sarker Kutti.

Leaders and activists of the district BNP brought out the road march from in front of its office around 9:00am, demanding resignation of the government, protesting price hike of the daily commodities and arrest of the party members in "false" cases across the country.

Snehanshu said when BNP members began the road march, police charged batons on them and foiled the programme.

Denying the police action, Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Patuakhali Sadar Police Station, said police freed the road when the party activists blocked it to hold the programme illegally.

Additional police have been deployed in front of the BNP office to thwart any untoward incident, he added.
