AL wants power forever: BNP

The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s secretary general, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, said on Sunday that the Awami League wanted to occupy power forever so that they could loot public money and resources.

‘The AL government filed false and fabricated cases against BNP leaders and activists so that they could easily occupy power forever,’ he said.

Mirza Fakhrul made the remarks while addressing a rally in Chattogram as the chief guest.

Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, an associate body of the party, organised the rally at the Kazir Dewri area in Chattogram to press home its one-point demand for the AL government’s resignation.

‘The AL government made the election commission ineffective. The EC was not able to exercise its power accurately to hold free and fair elections,’ he said.

‘The people do not want the autocratic Hasina government in power. People want to vote. Please give the people a chance to vote, otherwise, people know how to vote,’ the BNP secretary general said.

Referring to the Awami League government, the BNP secretary general said, ‘You killed BNP activists, killed people extrajudicially. You must stop this.’

BNP’s vice-chairman Abdullah Al Noman presided over the rally, while BNP’s standing committee members Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, vice-chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, Md Mohammad Nasir Uddin, among others, addressed the rally.

Several thousand Sramik Dal activists from Chattogram Division joined the rally.
