AL’s 3 associate bodies again seek permission to hold rally at Baitul Mukarram

The ruling Awami League's three associate bodies have reverted to the south gate of Baitul Mukarram mosque as their venue of choice for tomorrow's rally.

Jubo League, Swechchhasebak League, and AL's front organisation Chhatra League today applied to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police seeking permission to hold the rally at the venue, Afzalur Rahman Babu, general secretary of Swechchhasebak League, told reporters.

He was talking to reporters while visiting the old international trade fair ground at the city's Agargaon, where the three organisations had initially proposed to hold Friday's rally, after postponing the rally originally scheduled for today.

Afzalur Rahma said they could not hold the rally at the trade fair ground as the president has pre-scheduled programme at the adjacent Bangabandhu International Convention Centre next.

The three organisations rescheduled their rally for tomorrow at the old international trade fair ground following much drama and uncertainty as DMP yesterday denied BNP permission to hold its rally, also originally scheduled for today, at Nayapaltan or Suhrawardy Udyan as a rally on a working day would cause public suffering.

In response, BNP informed DMP that they would move the rally to Friday and hold it at either Nayapaltan or Suhrawardy Udyan.

Dhaka police also refused the Awami League's associate and front organisations permission for their rally at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram citing the same reasons given to the BNP.

The Dhaka University unit of Chhatra League then sought permission from the university authorities for a rally either at the Gymnasium Ground or in the Central Shaheed Minar area.

The three organisations eventually rescheduled their rally for tomorrow.

They decided to hold the rally at the trade fair ground at around 3:00pm.
