BNP fighting to destroy democracy, not protect it: Quader

Awami League general secretary and road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader said BNP is fighting for the destruction of democracy.

‘Awami League wants peace. If there was unrest, BNP could not have held a single rally by now. However, if you want to disturb the peace on October 28, this time it will not be spared,’ Quader said, at a special extended meeting of the Dhaka south city Awami League unit at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital on Tuesday afternoon.

The meeting was held to make the peace and development rally a success on October 28.

In the meeting, Quader said, ‘There is no movement with a fixed date. No movement has succeeded in any country in the world by announcing a date. Even in our country, the movements of ‘69 and ‘90 did not come with a date. Due to the wrong path, the BNP movement will fall into the pit this time.’

‘Awami League wants peace. Why should we want unrest in power? But now itf anyone comes to make any unrest, we’ll show what is called unrest,’ said the AL leader.

Addressing the party leaders and workers, the Awami League general secretary said, ‘I want to see the rough sea on October 28. I want to hear the roar of the angry Bay of Bengal. We’ve endured a lot. There are limits to tolerance.’

‘They will rally with 40 parties. Dreams are dreams. That colourful, faded balloon of BNP will be silenced. Just wait a bit,’ he also said.

‘It is surprising to see the level of patience shown by Awami League leaders and workers being in the ruling party,’ the minister added.

AL presidium members Shajahan Khan, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Kamrul Islam, Dr Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Organising Secretary Mirza Azam, among others, spoke at the meeting.
