Members of law enforcement agencies detained the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party vice-chairman Barrister Shahjahan Omar (Bir Uttam) at a location in Dhaka city at the night following Saturday.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said this in a statement on Sunday.
The statement did not mention the place of detaining the BNP leader.
Rizvi condemned the arrest of the party leader and demanded release of all the party leaders and activists arrested in false and fabricated cases.
Law enforcement agencies, however, did not say anything about the detention of Shahjahan.
