Police stop Ganatantra Mancha procession

The police barred the Ganatantra Mancha, a six-party political alliance, from bringing out a procession towards Elephant Road from Shahbagh intersection on Friday.

The police stopped the group as it tried to proceed after holding a rally in front of the National Museum as part of a mass contact programme in support of its mass procession programme scheduled for today.

Ganatantra Mancha leaders and activists at the rally vowed to continue their movement against the Awami League government until its resignation before the next general elections scheduled for January 7.

Saiful Huq, general secretary of Revolutionary Workers Party, called upon the people to take to the streets and resist the one-sided election.

Ganosamhati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki said that the Awami League was going to hold another farcical election and they had seized voting rights of the people in the name of development of the country.

He called on the people to wage a mass movement to compel the government to resign from the power.

Chaired by Bhashani Onusari Parishad convener Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu, the programme was also addressed by Rastra Sanskar Andolan chief coordinator Hasnat Quaiyum, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD general secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmod Shapon and Nagarik Oikya general secretary Shahidulla Kaiysar.

Ganatantra Mancha will bring out a mass procession from in front of the National Press Club at 3:00pm today.
