LDA urges people to reject one-sided polls

Leaders of Left Democratic Alliance, a platform combining six political parties, on Saturday at a protest rally in Dhaka called on the people to reject the election scheduled on January 7.

LDA organised the rally in front of the National Press Club to mark 5th anniversary of December 30 as black day. On the day in 2018, the ruling Awami League government seized the voting rights of the people, according to the party.

People should reject the one-sided election as it would not ensure their voting rights, LDA leaders said.

Communist Party of Bangladesh president Mohammad Shah Alam said that there was no alternative of holding an inclusive, free, fair and credible general election for restoration of the voting rights of people.

The one-sided general election that was going to be held on January 7 would not restore the voting rights. So, people should reject it, he added.

Socialist Party of Bangladesh general secretary Bazlur Rashid Firoz called on the government to take immediate steps for holding an inclusive election.

Chaired by coordinator of the alliance and secretary of Revolutionary Communist League Mosharraf Hossain Nannu, SPB (Marxist) central leader Joydeep Bhattacharya, Democratic Revolutionary Party central leader Shahidul Islam Sabuj, executive president of Samajtantrik Party Abdul Ali and others spoke at the rally.

The rally was followed by a procession that paraded different city roads.
