Rizvi urges people to boycott election

The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party senior joint secretary general, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, led a procession carrying sticks in Karwanbazar in Dhaka Friday morning and urged the people to boycott the January 7 general election.

The leaders and activists chanted slogans to press home their demands for scrapping the January 7 general election, dissolving the parliament, resignation of the government and handing power to a non-party neutral government to hold the next general election.

Addressing a short rally after the procession, Rizvi termed the January 7 election as ‘illegal’ and ‘dummy’ election and said that the people of the country would not accept the election.

‘There are two trends in the country now. One is in favour of truth and justice, people’s voting rights and freedom of expression. The other is in favour of money laundering and looters, in favour of snatching people’s rights. The victory of those of us who are on the side of justice is inevitable,’ he said.

He urged the people to boycott the illegal election and not to go to polling centres on January 7.
