BNP leaders, British HC hold meeting

A team of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party led by its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday held a meeting with British high commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke.

The meeting was held at the British high commissioner’s residence in Dhaka.

Following the meeting, an X post the mission said, ‘Today, British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke met with the leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to understand the party’s political strategy.’

BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and organising secretary Shama  Obaed were also present at the meeting.

When asked about the meeting, Khasru said that the meeting was held in an invitation of the British high commissioner.

‘We discussed many internal issues and there is no information to share media,’ he said.

A BNP leader, however, said that Sarah Cooke asked BNP leaders about their next plan and the BNP leaders replied that they are still struggling to free the arrested leaders and activists while the government is still continuing arrests.

He said that the party is now preparing to set next course of movement to establish democracy in the country.

He said that the party leaders informed the British high commissioner that BNP will hold meetings with the movement partners to take next programmes.
