Bangladesh need 236 to seal series against Sri Lanka

Bangladesh will have to chase down 236 in their third and final one-day international against Sri Lanka in Chattogram to seal the three-match series win as the series is currently level at 1-1.

After Sri Lanka opted to bat first, they were rattled early on by Taskin Ahmed as he trapped Pathum Nissanka (1) LBW before getting Avishka Fernando (4) to nick one behind, although the former could have survived if he had reviewed.

Sadeera Samawickrama (14) fell to Mustafizur Rahman, who returned to the XI in place of the injured Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and Kusal Mendis (29) fell to Rishad Hossain to hand the leg-spinner his first ODI wicket.

Charith Asalanka (37) was the next to go as he edged one to Mushfiqur Rahim off Mustafizur before Mehidy Hasan Miraz got rid of Dunith Wellalage (1) and Wanindu Hasaranga (11) to leave the visitors reeling at 154-7.

However, from there on, Janith Liyanage, who reached his fifty off 65 balls, added 70 runs with Maheesh Theekshana (15) to take Sri Lanka past 200.

Liyanage went on to reach his century off 101 balls and stayed unbeaten on 101 off 102 balls, hitting 11 fours and two sixes, but his contribution could only take Sri Lanka to 235 as they were bowled out in the final delivery of the innings courtesy of Lahiru Kumara (1) being run out.

What highlighted the end of the Sri Lanka innings, though, was the flurry of injuries as three Bangladesh players went off injured. First, Mustafiz tried to bowl his final over but could not as he had to leave on a stretcher due to an injury, which he sustained after he slipped and tumbled in his bowling follow-through in his previous over

Then, Soumya Sarkar hurt his knee trying to save a four before substitute fielder Anamul Haque Bijoy collided with Jaker Ali Anik while trying to take the catch of Pramod Madushan as the latter was seriously hurt and also had to leave the field on a stretcher.
