Terror threat to Bangladesh-India series

Delhi police has been asked to step up security after an anonymous letter sent to National Investigation Agency (NIA) claimed that India captain Virat Kohli and the India team were on a threat list, Indo Asian New Service (IANS) reported. Bangladesh are set to play the first T20I of the three-match T20I series against India on November 3 at Delhi.

The report claimed that as per Delhi Police sources, the letter contains a list which also includes the names of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind, Home Minister Amit Shah, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stalwart Lal Krishna Advani, BJP working President J.P. Nadda and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat.

While the sources claimed that the letter is believed to be a hoax, security will nevertheless be stepped up given what the report claims to be ‘heightened threat perception’.

The anonymous letter reportedly says that All India Lashkar, based out of Kozhikode, Kerala, might target Kohli and prominent politicians. The NIA has subsequently forwarded the letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
