BNP leaders not allowed to meet Khaleda Zia in jail

Dhaka, Jun 16 (Just News): A batch of senior BNP leaders was denied permission to meet BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia in jail today, on the day Bangladesh is celebrating Eid.

They were told to turn back at jail gates, according to what the leaders said.

“We came to meet our party chief on the occasion of the Eid but police barred us,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters at the jail gate.

Showing a copy of application, Fakhrul said: “We sought permission from the authority to meet our party chief three days ago, but we have been denied though there is a rule to meet a prisoner in jail on Eid day.”

Blaming the government for confining Khaleda Zia deliberately, Fakhrul said: “It is nothing but an unjust act and politics of vengeance of the government.”

A good number of leaders including the party’s standing committee members, led by Fakhrul, went to the jail gate around 12noon intending to meet their party chief.

BNP Standing Committee Member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said: “Police did not do the right job as they could have at least helped us to reach the jail authority.”
