Talks over polls shouldn’t be show-off only: LDA

Dhaka, Oct 30 (Just News): Appreciating the Prime Minister's initiative to hold talks with Jatiya Oikyafront, Left Democratic Alliance (LDA) leaders on Tuesday said the dialogue should not be a show-off only.

"It's a good sign that the government has invited Jatiya Oikyfront to dialogue. But the dialogue shouldn't be held for only show-off," LDA convener Saiful Haq said while speaking at a rally at the Jatiya Press Club in the city.

Communist Party of Bangladesh president Mujahidul Islam Selim said even after 47 years of the independence, the country's people are yet to get their voting rights. "We'll observe the dialogue which must be for people," he said.

Convener of Ganosamhati Andolon Zonayed Saki, general secretary of United Communist League Mosharraf Hossain Nannu and Garments Sramik Oikya Forum president Mushrefa Mishu also spoke at the programme.

Later, the LDA activists marched towards Bangabhaban to submit a memorandum to the President demanding implementation of their four-point recommendation to create level-playing field ahead of the upcoming election.

However, police dispersed the procession at Dainik Bangla intersection.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is also the President of Awami League, invited Jatiya Oikyafront to join dialogue with her party at 7pm on Thursday at Ganobhaban.
