Deadlock prevailed at Chittagong University today on the second day of strike by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists.
Shuttle train for students and the teachers’ bus services were kept off on security purpose.
“We will run shuttle train after the situation eases and the threat wanes,” said Md Kamal, divisional traffic control officer of Chattogram Railway.
University’s Assistant Proctor Helel Uddin said, BCL activists poured sand in the engine of the teachers’ buses. “It will take five days to repair at a cost of Tk 8 lakh.”
The BCL men also threatened the drivers to not run the buses, the assistant proctor added. “We will file a case against those responsible for destroying the vehicles.”
At campus, a tense situation prevailed and no classes or examinations were held.
Yesterday, the campus turned into a battlefield after Chhatra League activists clashed with police while clamping a strike on campus.
At least nine people, including five policemen, were injured.
The BCL men in a Facebook post had declared on Saturday that they would go for an indefinite strike to press home their four-point demand, including resignation of Proctor Ali Asgar Chowdhury and withdrawal of Officer-in-Charge of Hathazari Police Station Belal Md Jahangir for filing a “false” arms case against six BCL activists of the CU unit.
