India focuses on development of connectivity with Bangladesh: Jaishankar

India focuses on the development of connectivity with Bangladesh and beyond as the two countries celebrate 50 years of the diplomatic relationship.

"Connectivity between the two countries can change the face of the region. Connectivity is productivity," Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar told reporters after a bilateral meeting with Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen at the state guesthouse Padma today.

Jaishankar is on a one-day visit to Dhaka ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit on March 26-27 to attend the golden jubilee celebrations of Bangladesh's independence.

Momen said they discussed the whole range of issues including water sharing, trade and connectivity, energy and cooperation on post-Covid-19 recovery.

Asked about border killings, Jaishankar said one needs to understand reasons behind the killings.

"Every death is regrettable," he said adding that many of the killings take place inside India.

"There should be no crime, no death," Jaishankar said.
